History of Polyurethane Research and Development
Polyurethane (abbreviated as PU) is a polymer synthesized from polyisocyanates and polyether polyols, polyester polyols, or a combination thereof, together with chain extenders or crosslinking agents such as low-molecular-weight polyols, polyamines, or water. By varying the types and proportions of raw materials, the morphology and properties of the final product can be significantly tailored, yielding materials ranging from soft to rigid. Polyurethane products encompass flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid foams; elastomers (commonly referred to as TPU); paints and coatings; adhesives; sealants; synthetic leather coating resins; and elastic fibers, among others. These materials are extensively used in numerous industries, including automotive manufacturing, refrigerator production, transportation, civil engineering and construction, footwear, synthetic leather, textiles, electrical and mechanical equipment, petrochemicals, mining machinery, aerospace, healthcare, and agriculture.

The prepolymer-based foaming process involves first preparing a prepolymer by mixing the white component with the black component, then adding water, a catalyst, a surfactant, and other additives to the prepolymer. The mixture is subsequently subjected to high-speed stirring to induce foaming, followed by curing and, finally, post-curing at a specified temperature.
