Advantages and Disadvantages of Polyurethane Exterior Wall Insulation Foaming

Polyurethane foam is a two-component system: Component A is a polyol, and Component B is an isocyanate. During application, the two components are fed into spraying equipment, where they are mixed and sprayed out in a mist-like form, rapidly foaming, curing, and solidifying within about one minute. This material was only introduced in recent years for use in building thermal insulation and waterproofing. After two to three years of practical application, it has become better understood; it boasts numerous advantages and a wide range of applications.

New Technologies for the Application of Polyurethane Foam Materials in Automobiles

Polyurethane materials are increasingly widely used in the automotive industry and have become one of the most extensively consumed types of plastics in vehicles, with global annual consumption exceeding 1 million tonnes. In 2006, China’s automobile production surpassed 7.2 million units, driving total polyurethane consumption to more than 100,000 tonnes. Polyurethane typically accounts for about 15% of all plastic used in automobiles, with an average consumption of 15 kg per vehicle, predominantly in the form of MDI-based products.

Applications of Polyurethane Wood-Alternative Materials in Furniture

Polyurethane wood‑like materials were developed by Professor Bayer of Germany and others and were widely used in furniture decorative components in the 1960s. Today, in China’s furniture and wood‑product manufacturing, the most commonly used wood‑like materials are high‑density (0.3–0.7 g/cm³) rigid polyurethane foams or reinforced rigid polyurethane foams. These belong to the category of structural foams and exhibit high strength, excellent toughness, a dense and robust skin, simple molding processes, and high production efficiency. Their density can be lower than that of natural wood, while their tactile feel, texture, appearance, and mechanical properties closely resemble those of natural wood, making them suitable substitutes for wood in the production of various high‑grade or high‑strength carved furniture and wood products.

[Technical Column] Analyzing the Suitability of Exterior Wall Insulation Materials

Currently, fire-resistance requirements for exterior wall insulation are being progressively tightened. Insulation systems must simultaneously deliver excellent thermal performance and achieve Class A fire resistance. Insulation boards made from mineral wool (rock wool or glass wool) offer Class A fire rating, low thermal conductivity, and the additional advantages of being free from hollowing, cracking, and detachment, making them increasingly favored.

A Brief Analysis of the Five Major Factors Causing Aging of Exterior Wall Insulation Materials

Nowadays, exterior wall insulation panels are commonly installed in the construction of high-rise buildings, serving both to provide thermal insulation and to protect the exterior wall, thereby extending the service life of brick and concrete materials used for the exterior cladding. However, over time, these exterior wall insulation materials inevitably undergo aging. What are the primary causes of this aging? Below is a brief overview, broadly categorized into five main aspects.
